This past weekend, our men’s and women’s wrestling teams competed in the NCWA National Duals, entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed in both divisions. While we believed both teams were capable of winning, the event served as an important opportunity to measure ourselves against some of the best competition in the NCWA.
By the end of the weekend, both teams proved they belonged at the top of the field.
Men’s Team Recap
The men’s team delivered a dominant performance, finishing the weekend 6–0 in duals while outscoring opponents 310–47.
Across all duals, the team posted an impressive 58–8 record in individual matches, earning bonus-point victories in over 70% of those wins. The team wrestled with confidence and aggression from top to bottom of the lineup.
One of the key themes we emphasize in our program is “wrestling downhill”—creating pressure, pushing the pace, and generating scoring opportunities. This weekend, the team did exactly that.
From the opening whistle to the final match, the group showed intensity, composure, and excitement on the mat. It was one of the most complete performances we’ve seen from this team all season.
With postseason competition approaching, this tournament served as a great measuring stick and provided strong momentum heading into NCWA Nationals.
Women’s Team Recap
The women’s team was equally dominant, finishing the weekend 6–0 in dual competition and capturing the NCWA Dual National Championship in convincing fashion.
Individually, the team posted a 39–4 match record, while collectively outscoring opponents 336–42 throughout the event.
Their performance reflected the team’s depth, discipline, and ability to consistently execute at a high level across the entire lineup. Every wrestler contributed to the team’s success, helping secure the national title.
Freestyle Nationals Success
Following the dual tournament, the women’s team continued their impressive run at the NCWA Freestyle Nationals.
The team captured the team title by 41 points, finishing ahead of second-place Utah Tech.
Key highlights from the freestyle competition included:
-
11 of 13 wrestlers placing in the top three
-
5 individual national champions
-
A combined 49–9 record against the rest of the field
The team’s performance throughout the day showcased their skill, preparation, and ability to compete at the highest level.
Looking Ahead
The results from this weekend demonstrate the strength and depth of both programs. With dominant performances from the men’s and women’s teams alike, the momentum continues to build as the season moves toward its final stages.
With NCWA Nationals approaching, both teams are excited to carry this energy forward and continue competing at a championship level.
